Sun setting behind the Miami skyline

Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Miami

With lush tropical scenery, the Miami cityscape and beautiful Biscayne Bay as the backyard, Miami has no shortage of places to catch a beautiful sunset.

The sky is painted with shades of pink, orange and red. From the Atlantic Ocean to Biscayne Bay, Miami’s landscape is dotted with islands, and meandering waterways.

Add to that the glittering downtown skyline and South Beach’s neon lights of the Art Deco district and Miami is one of the best cities to watch the sunset.

From beaches to harbors and marinas to rooftop restaurants, read on for the best places to watch the sunset in Miami.
Sunset Harbor aerial shot
Located in South Beach’s northwestern perimeter, this waterfront harbor offers a backdrop of the downtown Miami skyline, palm trees and yachts.

With the sky colored with beautiful hues of pink and purple, this is one of the most tranquil spots in Miami to watch the sunset.

There are a variety of restaurants where you can head to after watching the sunset such as Stiltsville Fish Bar across the street.
Rusty Pelican at sunset
The Rusty Pelican is one of Miami’s most iconic restaurants.

This Key Biscayne institution offers plenty of contemporary seafood such as lobster risotto, whole crispy snapper, and specialty cocktails that perfectly complement the striking water vistas of Biscayne Bay.

Order some crab cakes and a spicy passionfruit martini, and sit back as you watch the calm blue waters across the bay twinkle under the bright orange and pink skies.
Lido Bayside Grill at sunset
Sweeping views of Biscayne Bay make Lido Bayside Grill a stunning waterfront destination for sunset.

Walk along the deck, unwind under the bright yellow umbrellas by the pool, and order some Mediterranean bites and cocktails at the bar.

The menu features locally-sourced ingredients and line-caught seafood. Lido also offers vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options.

Situated on the Venetian Causeway with prime views of downtown Miami across the bay, sunset comes with an added bonus: happy hour. A weekday happy hour Monday thru Thursday from 4 to 7 pm features $2 oysters, discounted bites, and $7 frosé.
Smith & Wollensky
This iconic chophouse in South Beach has been around for 20 years and for good reason – the steak is topnotch, the service is always on point, and the sweeping water views of the bay and departing cruise ships are second to none.

Smith & Wollensky has been renovated both inside and out with an expanded indoor bar and lounge, and the stunning new Overlook Deck.

To catch a glimpse of Miami’s cotton candy skies, opt for a table at the waterside patio or a cushy banquette at the second story terrace featuring breathtaking views of South Pointe Park, Fisher Island and Downtown Miami.
Sunset at Monty's
For those looking for a more laid-back experience, Monty's is a great option for watching the sunset in the South Pointe area.

Monty's is a mostly outdoor seafood restaurant with one of the best views in South Beach. There's even a pool in the center.

At this poolside hangout, patrons can kick back with a pitcher of beer, wings, and peel-and-eat-shrimp while taking in unobstructed views of the Miami Beach Marina.

It's a solid choice for some frozen drinks and basic fried seafood. And that view is just fantastic.
Miami Beach Marina
Located at 300 Alton Rd in Miami Beach, Miami Beach Marina is a great place to enjoy the sunset.

The marina is dotted with palm trees and shrubs, and boats line up the boardwalk.

You can catch the sunset at Monty’s Sunset right across from the marina, a classic of Miami Beach.
Haulover Beach Park
Located at Collins Ave in Miami Beach, Haulover Park is a 177-acre urban beach park located between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay.

On weekdays during the sunset, Haulover Beach Park is almost never crowded so it is a great place to pack a picnic and enjoy the sunset in peace.
South Pointe Park
South Pointe Park possesses one of the most picturesque vistas in all of Miami.

The park sits along South Beach’s southern point with a beautiful landscaped park, a scenic pier offering panoramic views of the South Beach skyline, Fisher Island, Port of Miami and the downtown skyline.

It’s the perfect spot to lay out a blanket and view cruise ships enter and exit the harbor.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park
Located at the southern tip of Key Biscayne, Cape Florida State Park is a piece of old Florida with rugged sand dunes, lush vegetation, beaches and ocean views.

The water is tranquil and transparent thanks to a barrier reef located six miles offshore.

You can visit the historic lighthouse built in 1825 with tours offered at 10am and 1pm daily except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when the tower is closed.

Enjoy refreshments at The Cleat nearby, a quaint oceanside bar near the tip of Cape Florida.

During sunset, Cape Florida is one of the only places in Miami where you can watch the sunset sink directly into the ocean.
Sugar Rooftop
An oasis at the 40th floor of the East Miami hotel, Sugar is the highest rooftop bar in all of Miami offering the best views of Biscayne Bay and the downtown skyline.

Relax in the lush garden lounge or at the carved Balinese bar while sipping one of their Asian-themed cocktails like the Sakura made with bourbon, vermouth, and cherries.

The pan-Asian menu delivers a varied selection of tapas-style small plates like sushi, pork belly buns, boneless Korean chicken wings, and other Asian inspired bites.
Juvia Restaurant
The beauty of Juvia's purple-hued rooftop is rivaled only by its view overlooking the South Beach skyline.

Chefs Sunny Oh, formerly of Nobu, and his first hand Kaoru Chang, create harmonious blends of Asian, South American with French techniques.

A lush terrace and glass-enclosed dining room with floor to ceiling windows provide plenty of seating options to enjoy the scene, which only gets more stunning as the sun goes down.
Matheson Hammock Park
Matheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables is a lovely scenic park that makes for a great place to soak up the sun, and the sunset.

The 630-acre urban park on Biscayne Bay has an onsite sailing school, marina, an atoll pool and hiking trails through the preserved hardwood hammock.

It is also a popular spot for kiteboarding, kayaking and standup paddle boarding. The park also has a snack bar and restaurant built into a historic coral rock building.

As a peninsula jutting out into Biscayne Bay, Matheson provides beautiful views of the sunset.
Mondrian South Beach
With a unique location on the west side of South Beach with sunset views overlooking Biscayne Bay, the Mondrian is a boutique hotel with a great location.

Enjoy sunset cocktails or dinner at Baia Beach Club overlooking the pool surrounded by cabanas.

It’s one of the few poolside locations in South Beach where you can take in the sunset.
Watr at the Rooftop at 1 Hotel South Beach
For the best oceanfront rooftop bar, head straight to 1 Hotel South Beach where you will find Watr at the Rooftop on the 18th floor.

The views extend 360 degrees from the Atlantic Ocean to South Beach’s Art Deco rooftops and Biscayne Bay.

Indulge in sunset views of the water while enjoying handcrafted cocktails or Latin and Japanese inspired cuisine at the bar. Or opt for one of the white, chic cabanas surrounding a beautiful central pool.
